NEW YORK, NEW YORK
In an act of humorous vandalism, a group of BDSMers pranked the NYC Transit Authority, changing subway signs to read BDSM causing thousands of commuters to miss their trains and start work late. The prank, which no one has claimed credit for, has cost the city more than $2.1 million according to researchers at Millennium Consulting.
“People think this kind of thing is funny,” said Marvin Ross, spokesperson for the Mayor’s office, “but they are costing us all money, which means less police on the streets and fewer benefits for the city. To them it is just good clean fun, but to us, it is an act of financial vandalism.”
Those who were unaffected by the prank found it “mildly amusing,” “somewhat clever” and “funny.” Tammy Jo Milbank, 46, however didn’t get the joke. “What is BDSM? Is that like some kind of sports team or a brand of motorbike?”
For Jim Masterson, 32, the prank was more than just inconvenient. “We’re visiting from out of state and we just wanted to go to the zoo. Instead we wound up in a really bad neighborhood and someone took my wallet and my wife’s wedding ring. So to us, it isn’t funny at all.”
