Masks, hoods, and face coverings have long been a part of traditional BDSM play, but it seems that the COVID-19 crisis has opened up a whole new area of interest in BDSM.
Self-described “mask fetishists” are having a great time during the crisis.
“It has been like a dream come true,” says Kevin Hicks, a 28 year old top leaning switch. “I used to have to convince my play partners to wear a mask for me, but now everyone is just doing it on their own.”
The excitement can be a bit overwhelming, according to Kay Swensonbrook, a 29 year old submissive who has been wearing masks since well before the pandemic hit.
“When I go outside shopping or even just for a walk, I see everyone wearing a mask. It just drives me crazy. I get so turned on!,” she said. “It is just mind blowing.”
There is even a national advocacy group, the ASMW, the American Society for Mask Wearing (pronounced Ass Mew), who have been promoting the fetish since 2001.
Recent announcements from the CDC indicating that vaccinated people can forego mask wearing in some situations drew a sharp rebuke from Theresa Long, the President of the group. “Mask saves lives. People should wear them all the time. We even advocate for wearing them when you are alone. There is no reason why everyone shouldn’t wear masks all the time, even when they sleep. I mean I do. So why doesn’t everyone?”
Carter Helwick, President of MFU (Mask Fetishists United), takes it one step farther, suggesting consequences for those who fail to wear masks.
“We really should have punishments for those who refuse to wear masks,” Helwick said, “especially for cute girls. Like this girl Claire. She lives near me and she looks so cute in her mask. She should be punished for not wearing it. Spanked probably. A nice long, strict spanking until she is begging to wear a mask. Such a naughty girl. She really needs to be taught a lesson.”
While Theresa Long’s group doesn’t advocate such extreme measures, she did ask if she could have Helwick’s number.
